Woa there killer! Get your head out of the gutter! I’m not talking about the kind of crabs that your promiscuous neighbor got after one too many tequila shots on her night out on the town! But these “crabs” can be just as pesky, just as sneaky, and just as hard to break free of.
See what I’m talking about right here…
According to Wikipedia (and everyone knows that whatever you read on the internet is toootally true!)…
“Crab mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket, describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase “if I can’t have it, neither can you.” The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs.Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless “king of the hill” competition (or sabotage) which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise. The analogy in human behavior is that of a group that will attempt to “pull down” (negate or diminish the importance of) any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of envy, conspiracy or competitive feelings.”

So what’s going on right now in YOUR life when it comes to your circle of friends, your co-workers, or even (gulp!) your family?? Are you surrounding yourself with “haters”and “crabs”? Or are you surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals that want to see you TRULY succeed…that share and support and want you to reach those goals almost as badly as you do.
And if you are hanging out with the wrong crowd, what are you planning to do about it? You gonna hang around until they pull you down for good? Or are you going to take action and make sure you only spend your time and (more importantly) your energy hanging out with the right crowd?
I’m sure you are probably starting to sense a theme here when I say…the choice is all YOURS!

This is so true. What I love about our group is how we all feed off of each others positive attitudes.
It’s definitely a contagious bunch!
Amen to that!!! Just got rid of a crab the other day….Good Riddance!
And you will be sooo much better for it!@
My little circle is so small that I manage to keep the crabs at bay pretty effectively. I tend to keep most people at arm’s-ish length anyway, until I know they’re REALLY on my team. Definitely good advice, though, especially for (the plenty of) people I know who are draaaaged down by their crabs & haters. Let ‘em GO!
I’m a quality over quantity person myself Mel
I need to re-evaluate some folks I think, it’s tough to cut people free, I have never been good at “losing” people, but referring to them as the crabs that they are should help me achieve this milestone for sure! #Enlightened
It’s still a loss, and it hurts. But it hurts a lot less in the longrun than living with the wrath of those crabs. Short-term pain for long-term benefit. It’s totally worth it
I absolutely agree, I stay far away from people like that because they only bring me down. There’s a scripture in the bible that says, “Tell me who your friends are and I will tell you who you are”. Negativity is very contagious if we associate ourselves with those kind of people. I want to succeed and win so I hang around with the same people who have that kind of mentality. That is why I love the members of NYABC because they think the same way I do.
